Officials have identified the man killed after a boat capsized on Candlewood Lake in Brookfield.
Gary Hayes, 48, of East Hartford, died Sunday after a 17-foot motorboat that was carrying him and another man capsized.
The incident happened around 12:30 p.m.
Officials say Hayes was pulled from the water and transported to Danbury Hospital, where he later died.
The other man, Joseph Miranda, 29, of Manchester, managed to swim to shore. Officials say Miranda refused medical treatment at the scene.
People who live on Candlewood Lake in Brookfield say that Sunday was too windy to be fishing with gusts at 30 - 40 mph.
First Selectman Steve Dunn says there were 2- or 3-foot waves on the lake Sunday and people need to play it safe.

"Wear your life vest, pay attention to conditions,” he says.

Officials are investigating whether the two men were wearing life jackets and had safety equipment.
This summer, a Waterbury teacher was struck and killed by the propeller of the boat she was on at Candlewood Lake.
