Officials in New Canaan say they received multiple calls from residents about bear sightings.
The sightings occurred on North Wilton Road on Monday and Tuesday in the afternoon.
Local officials say that bears do not hibernate all winter and may forage in search of food.
Black bears are the only species of bear native to Connecticut.
While most Connecticut black bears den from late November through mid-March, they can be periodically active during the winter
According to Connecticut's Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, bird feeders and trash may attract wandering black bears along with pet food, fruit trees and berry-producing shrubs.
