Some people in the northwest section of Greenwich have renewed their calls for a new firehouse in the wake of a destructive house fire earlier this month.

Firefighters who responded to the Aug. 10 fire on Locust Road say it took more than 10 minutes to reach the house, located near the New York border. They say an ideal response would be under four minutes.

Residents are now circulating an online petition to get support for a new firehouse in northwest Greenwich. The station was last brought up at a town meeting in 2016, but talks broke down over budget concerns.

First Selectman Peter Tesei says the Locust Road fire shows that it might be time to try again for a new station.

Greenwich officials will be considering a "sense of the meeting" resolution next month to begin planning for a northwest fire station.
