Plans to build senior housing next to an animal sanctuary founded in memory of a Sandy Hook victim have been withdrawn.
There was major public opposition to the 172-unit complex in Newtown.

She issued a statement saying, "While we are unaware of the details surrounding the withdrawal of the Newtown Planning & Zoning application for the development of 8 Commerce Road, we are hopeful future development plans reflect significant consideration to lessening the environmental stressors of this beautiful space and that whoever ultimately becomes its stewards will apply the highest level of conservation principles. As for the sanctuary, we remain steadfast in providing compassionate programming and making this world a kinder place for animals, humans and the environment."
Teton Capital Company out of Greenwich is behind the proposal.
News 12 reached out to Teton Capitol Company to find out if they plan to resubmit a different proposal for the site but have not heard back yet.
