Two people have been arrested in connection to the hit-and-run of a Bridgeport firefighter last June, police say.

Adrian Cauthen, 33, and Frances Marino, 33, both of Bridgeport, were arrested Thursday.

Both Cauthen and Marino were charged with several offenses including evading responsibility, serious physical injury, tapering with physical evidence, interfering with a police officer, third-degree assault and failure to yield to a pedestrian.

An off-duty Bridgeport fireman was struck by a car while crossing Stratford Avenue within the crosswalk from the southeast corner to the northeast corner at 11:18 p.m. on June 28. Police say Erique McCalla was heading home from a fireworks display.

Police also released an image of the car involved in the hit-and-run after the incident.

McCalla was transported to Bridgeport Hospital with multiple serious injuries including a collapsed lung and nine broken ribs. 

Eric Macculla, 46, is a 12-year veteran of the Bridgeport Fire Department. He spent time in the ICU after the incident, which was followed by months of healing and recovery his family says. He is still not back at work.

After the 7-month investigation, Linda Fernandez is happy for her only son.

"It will now bring my son some type of closure ... it brings me some type of closure, but I hope that they are brought to justice," says Fernandez.

Cauthen posted a $20,000 bond and Marino posted a $10,000 bond. The firefighter's family says the court-set bond amounts were equivalent to a "slap on the wrist."
