The family of a Bridgeport firefighter struck by a hit-and-run driver met with police and fire officials Wednesday to get an update on the investigation.
Eric McCalla, 46, a 12-year veteran of the Bridgeport Fire Department, had spent Friday night watching a fireworks display in Steelpoint. When he was crossing Stratford Avenue around 11:15 p.m., police say McCalla was struck.
As his family met with Bridgeport police, McCalla was undergoing his third surgery at Bridgeport Hospital. His family says he's a father of two known for his big smile and equally big heart.
Police say cameras where the accident occurred are key to closing their case.
McCalla's family say he's now expected to make a full recovery and hope the hit-and-run driver does the right thing.
