Two of the four children on board suffered cuts and were evaluated at the scene before they were taken to the hospital.
Police helped to keep the fire at bay until firefighters arrived to put out the flames.
"The police department arrived on scene, began to attack the fire with their portable extinguishers, kept it intact to continue some pressure with fire streams," said Assistant Chief Roger Caisse, of the Fairfield Fire Department.
Police are trying to determine what caused the crash.
