Police say two high school students were arrested after a video showed a brutal assault at Fairfield Warde High School on Friday morning.
The video appears to show a girl getting beaten up on the ground and dragged by her hair, while others are seen seemingly laughing. The video has been circulated in the community.
The victim did receive medical treatment but is doing OK.
Lt. Mike Paris, with the Fairfield Police Department, says Monday morning two female students were arrested for assault and breach of peace. Both students are juveniles.
"Video for sure is a huge important help to us. Our investigator has this ability to see almost firsthand. And that will go along with the arrest, that will go along to the court for a judge to see that video," said Paris.
They are working with the school and it's under investigation to see if there will be suspensions and expulsions.
Paris says the video can be evidence and should not be posted on social media.
"If you are going to video it, the video is hopefully for police evidence and not to post on any social media platform that's one thing that can be considered an amount of bullying," he said.
The two suspects are not currently attending school pending an administrative investigation to see if there will be suspensions or expulsions. Police say after a full investigation it is possible there could be more arrests.
"If they are taping the incident and not reporting the incident, they're absolutely can be instances where people can be arrested for that charge," said Paris.
Fairfield Warde did send out a statement saying in part, "This behavior is unacceptable and will not be tolerated at Fairfield Warde High School."
Police are investigating what the fight was about, but they say the victim and suspects did know each other.
