Bridgeport police say they are close to solving an attempted abduction that ended with a daring escape by a 17-year-old student from Harding High School.
Investigators say they have located a car that they believe was used in the crime. Surveillance video shows the victim rolling out of the passenger door as the car was moving down Boston Avenue Monday.
Police say that after the victim escaped, the charcoal gray Toyota made a U-turn at Dover Street and drove toward Stratford.
Officials held a news conference on Congress Street Thursday where they announced that the victim was lured into the car by a middle-aged woman who offered her a ride to Harding High School.
Officers say they have identified the woman and aren't sure what her motive was in luring the victim into her car. They say they hope to make an arrest soon. Police do not believe the victim knows the suspect.
Officials received an overwhelming number of tips from the community after the video was released by the media. They say the tips led them to New Haven, where they found the vehicle.
Police say the teen was not seriously hurt. The video shows her rolling out of the moving vehicle and sitting up, apparently stunned, at the side of the road.
Police say the case is a rarity for the Bridgeport community, and that they consider anything involving the safety of children a priority.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Bridgeport police.
