A person accused of stealing a vehicle and crashing it into a police cruiser in Bridgeport was apprehended after fleeing the scene of the crash on Wednesday afternoon.

Police say the incident happened on Frank Street and Madison Avenue.

The stolen vehicle struck a Bridgeport K-9 officer's cruiser before fleeing onto Route 8 North, according to police. The officer was uninjured.

Bridgeport police pursued the suspect until Exit 12 on Route 8 North, where the vehicle and suspect were eventually stopped by Derby police.

The identity of the suspect has not yet been released, and charges are pending.
