Bridgeport police are investigating the ninth homicide of the year on the city's West End.
Police say they were initially called to the location of Denver Avenue Wednesday night after gunfire, but it wasn't until Thursday morning that an apparent victim of the shooting was found dead.
Authorities say someone in the neighborhood called police around 8:30 a.m. to say they found the body.
Police identified the victim as 25-year-old Aaron Hunt, of Bridgeport.
Bridgeport City Council Member Jorge Cruz met with the grieving family and sent a message to the unidentified gunmen.
"They just don't understand the pain they're causing the families when they do something like this. It's just very sickening and unfortunate, and my heart is just broken," said Cruz.
Police say the Hunt's body was positioned on the ground between a car and a house, and first responders pronounced him dead on the scene. They say their homicide squad has taken charge of the case and that leads are "developing quickly."
"And I just hope and pray for justice -- that they find this individual who did this senseless violence," said Cruz.
State's Attorney Joseph Corradino was among the officials who were at the scene this morning. Police are asking anyone who can help them solve the case to call 203-576-TIPS.
