Police: Bridgeport councilwoman's son among 3 shot in Marina Village
The son of a Bridgeport city councilwoman is among three people who were shot at a funeral reception Saturday, according to police.
Police say the shooting happened at Marina Village around 8 p.m. during a funeral for beloved local resident, Vera Nichols.
Bridgeport Councilwoman Denese Taylor-Moye broke down in tears while speaking at a press conference Sunday morning about the triple-shooting that left her son in need of surgery.
"I'm sad that this happened in my city, in my community that I love so much," Taylor-Moye said.
Taylor-Moye says her 48-year-old son, Dennis Moye, is in stable condition now following a three-hour surgery to repair a shattered bone in his leg.
Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim said it shouldn’t take the son of a city councilwoman getting shot to rally support for gun control.
"We need to stand together against gun violence and work together as a city and every city and town has to do this," Ganim said.
Officials say all three victims are hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
Authorities are investigating the shooting. They are asking anyone with information to contact police.
