A motorcyclist sustained serious injuries Wednesday night after they rear-ended a BMW in Newtown.
Police say the driver of the BMW and the motorcyclist were on I-84 eastbound when the crash occurred between Exits 10 and 11.
The motorcyclist was hospitalized. There is no word on their condition as of Friday morning.
This incident comes as the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that motorcycle fatalities are at their highest number in nearly 50 years.
Nearly 50% of fatal motorcycle crashes occurred in June, July, August and September over the past decade.
Out of the 53 cases of motorcyclist deaths in Connecticut last year, authorities say 31 occurred during the summer months.
