A Norwalk man was fatally struck by a car Saturday night in Westport.

It happened at 11:30 p.m. in the area of 575 Riverside Avenue.

Matthew Balga, 54, was struck by a vehicle driving south. He was transported to Norwalk Hospital where he later died.

Riverside Avenue was temporarily closed in both directions while police investigated.

The driver of the vehicle remained on scene and is fully cooperating with authorities.

The Westport Police Accident Investigation Team, the Fairfield Accident Team and Westport Detective Bureau are investigating the crash.
