A Norwalk man wanted in connection with a stabbing was arrested after a DUI traffic stop over the weekend.

Police say they had been looking for Nelson Zelaya since a December 2014 stabbing on Lexington Avenue.

Zelaya, who was accompanied by an interpreter, faced a judge Monday at Norwalk Superior Court. While many details weren't discussed in court, News 12 has learned Zelaya has two orders of protection against him stemming from the 2014 incident, but was never arrested.

The 33-year-old is charged with first and second-degree assault, first-degree kidnapping and conspiracy.

Police say they finally caught up with him during a DUI stop Saturday morning.

"The individual was taken into custody by a different name than Zelaya. Eventually, his actual identity was determined, and he was found to have an active arrest warrant from 2014, in regards to the stabbing in South Norwalk," says Norwalk Police Lt. Terry Black.

Zelaya is being held on $500,000 bond.

He will be transferred to Stamford to face the case in a higher court later this month.
