Gunshots were fired at former Bridgeport mayoral candidate John Gomes' apartment and car Thursday, police say.
Authorities say they received a shot spotter activation just after 3 a.m.
Gomes' vehicle and apartment were shot multiple times.
No one was injured.
Gomes says he was awakened when officers began to investigate the incident.
He also says because no other vehicles or buildings were shot, it's not clear if the shooting was random or a targeted incident.
In a statement provided to News 12, Gomes said, "I can only say that it puts one's life in a place of darkness and unbalance due to fear not only for my safety, but for my loved ones and those around me. Whether it was directly targeted for me or not we must do better for our community."
The Bridgeport Police Department Detective Bureau is investigating.
