Police say a 22-year-old man is accused of killing his mother in Orange.
Authorities say Timothy Granata killed his mother, Claudia Granata, at their home on 130 Wild Rose Drive Thursday.
News 12 Connecticut was told that Claudia Granata, 58, was dead by the time they arrived on the scene.
Police tell News 12 Connecticut that a family member called 911. Timothy Granata was a short distance from the home when he was found by authorities and submitted to arrest unarmed.
Investigators say that Claudia Granta's death was an obvious homicide.
Neighbors say they are surprised and shocked that something like this would happen in their usually peaceful community. This is the first homicide in the town of Orange since 1992.
Timothy Granata is being held on a $2 million bond and will be arraigned Friday on murder charges at Superior Court in Derby.
