State police are urging drivers and motorcycle riders to be responsible and safely share the road in the wake of recent crashes.

This past Sunday, a collision between a car and motorcycle in West Haven left the biker dead. Two days later, Bridgeport police were called to the scene of a crash that sent a motorcycle rider to the hospital.

State police say that for drivers, it comes down to being extra aware of your surroundings, meaning looking and listening.

Fred Delibero owns a motorcycle repair shop in Stratford. He says the worst thing he sees while on his bike is distracted driving.

Motorcycles have the same privileges as cars, so police remind drivers to give them room. But those bikes are also bound by the same laws of the road, including staying in the line of traffic.

Connecticut does require people to take a basic motorcycle safety course before getting their motorcycle license. In addition, state police say there's a law that mandates motorcycles to have their headlights on all times to help make sure they're seen.
