Police in Westport are warning residents about a scam involving fire extinguisher inspections.
The alleged scam was reported when someone went into a store claiming to work for the fire department.
The man said he was required to inspect the fire extinguishers on site, and said both in the store needed to be replaced.
He then told the employee he spoke with the manager and would need nearly $200 to cover the cost of replacement.
The employee gave him the money, but the man never returned with new extinguishers.
