Stamford police say a woman was found dead in a park on Thursday.
Officers received a call just before 9 a.m. after a hiker saw a 54-year-old woman under a blanket near one of the trails inside Mianus River Park. The woman wasn't moving. She was declared dead at the scene when police and EMS arrived.
"We'll have to wait for the autopsy and the toxicology report before we have any exact thoughts on this cause of death certainly,” said Stamford Police Chief Richard Conklin. “We are concerned a large amount of opioid which appears to be heroin or fentanyl was discovered at the scene.
Investigators closed part of the trail for most of the morning, but the park has since reopened. They added they do not suspect foul play.
Police say there is no danger to the public.
