Michael’s Pastry Shop is closing its doors after 31 years in the Marine Park neighborhood.
The owners, Maria and Salvatore DiLeonardo, said the sudden closing is out of their hands, since their landlord is unwilling to renew their lease.
“It’s hard to say goodbye to something you love,” said Maria DiLeonardo. “The amount of love and support that we're getting from the community is truly making everything we've done these last 31 years worth it.”
Salvatore DiLeonardo, the owner and pastry chef, described feelings of heartbreak.
Moving forward his customers can still enjoy some of his desserts at the partner restaurant, Michael’s.
Customers of the pastry shop told News 12 the loss of the bakery is already devastating the Marine Park community.
