The U.S. Postal Service says it is planning to close the mail processing center in Stamford.
A Postal Service spokesperson says operations in Stamford will move to Westchester, New York, along with about 220 positions. The rest will be eliminated, as the Postal Service says it is changing its operations to reflect the changing ways Americans are using their mailboxes.
Postal Service officials say business has dropped 25 percent since 2006.
The earliest that the Postal Service could begin the closure would be in May, when a congressional moratorium expires.
