Thousands of people took part in a massive relief effort in Bridgeport Sunday to collect much-needed supplies for victims of Hurricane Maria.
The CTBT United for PR Radio telethon was held at Sazon Y Mambo.
Generous donations were made by anonymous Connecticut companies, including pallets of bottled water and boxes full of food.
State Rep. Chris Rosario says he has dozens of loved ones in the stricken U.S. territory who are rationing the tiny amounts of drinking water available, so donations are deeply appreciated.
"It's very heart-warming to see the care, not only from the Puerto Rican community, but from the community at large and it really means a lot, it goes a long way," he says.
Sen. Richard Blumenthal thanked the volunteers taking part in the relief effort. He asked them "to call out the Trump administration for failing to provide the same quality of relief that it rolled out for Texas and the Gulf Coast in the wake of hurricanes there."
Blumenthal added, "I'm going to be leading a group of my colleagues to visit with FEMA first thing Monday morning demanding that this administration do more and do better."
Organizers say the event generated $1 million worth of cash and emergency supplies for Puerto Rico.
