Gov. M. Jodi Rell vetoed a bill Sunday that included a controversial tax on shellfish.
State Sen. Bob Duff (D-Norwalk) says the voice of local shell fishermen was heard after he and other lawmakers convinced the governor to repeal the bill. The proposed tax would have charged $1 for every bushel of shellfish caught off the Connecticut coast.
Duff says the tax would have impeded Connecticut fishermen's competition with other states, in addition to being difficult to quantify and implement.
