Some parents in the town of Orange say they're concerned about how a renovation to the community center will affect their preschoolers' new school year.

First Selectman Jim Zeoli says a study done at the community center showed lead and asbestos in some of the hallways. The renovation could take as long as eight months.

The Orange Community Nursery School is a private preschool that leases its space from the town. The classrooms don't need renovations, but the hallways leading up to the classes will, forcing them to relocate.

While the renovation has been in the works for four years, school officials and parents say they weren't given enough notice to properly find a new location and get that building approved by the state.

Zeoli says the renovations must get done. He says a number of people will be inconvenienced regardless of whether they're done during the summer, when there's camp, or in the fall, during the school year.

Zeoli welcomes parents to attend a town meeting Aug. 8 to voice their concerns.
