A major renovation project began Thursday in Stratford at Sikorsky Memorial Airport.
Southwestern Connecticut-based Volo Aviation is behind the project, which will construct brand new offices, a new terminal and 35,000-square feet of hangar space.
Volo Aviation, a charter management company that services private jets, is moving its headquarters to Sikorsky.
Mayor Jim Miron was excited about the groundbreaking ceremony, and says this project is a major step forward for the region.
?This type of air travel, fractional jet ownership, corporate jet travel and so forth is a real niche industry in the aviation business that they believe strongly in and the fact they want to do it here in Stratford says a lot,? Miron says.
News 12 Connecticut was informed that a new office building should be completed in six months, followed by the demolition of an existing office building to start more construction.
The project is estimated to take less than two years to complete.
