Rep. Jahana Hayes reveals 2020 White House endorsement in 'Essence'
Another Connecticut elected official weighed in on the 2020 race for the White House Wednesday, straying from the governor's pick.
Rep. Jahana Hayes announced Wednesday she is siding with Sen. Kamala Harris. On Tuesday, Gov. Ned Lamont backed Harris' opponent, former Vice President Joe Biden.
Hayes announced her endorsement in Essence magazine, writing, "Kamala has presented a policy agenda focused on increasing access for ALL Americans, lifting families up to ensure no child has to be told that something is not possible."
Harris has gained ground on Biden in many polls after an impressive showing in last week's Democratic debates.
Biden campaigned for Lamont last year when he was gubernatorial candidate, giving him a last-minute push in his race against Bob Stefanowski.
"He's got a 40-year record," says Lamont. "I think people know where he stands on war and peace. I think they know where he stands on civil rights."
Sens. Chris Murphy and Richard Blumenthal say they are waiting on giving out endorsements. Murphy says he has "a bunch of my friends in the Senate that are running, which is a big part of the reason why I'm staying out of it."
