It was social media that helped lead to the rescue of a cat stuck in a Bronx tree for more than 24 hours.
Neighbors banded together to save the feline, Penelope, who was five stories high on Morris Avenue in Melrose Tuesday night.
But it was Baron Ambrosia who scaled the tree himself after seeing a Facebook post about Penelope. People in the area had been trying to get the cat down and were unable to get the fire department to help.
The rescue was all caught on cellphone video as neighbors stood below the tree with blankets in hand, ready to catch Penelope.
The cat's owner is grateful for everyone who helped bring her pet home safely, especially to Ambrosia, who she says risked his own life climbing the tree.
