Norwalk residents rallied Tuesday against a state proposal to repair a main roadway in the city.
Residents voiced their opposition in front of City Hall against the proposed project that would increase the clearance under the East Norwalk Railroad Bridge. If approved, the roadway would be lowered by three feet.
Residents say the project as it stands could compromise their quality of life and traffic would increase as more tractor-trailers would be able to pass under the bridge. They also say that flooding could be an issue.
The Department of Transportation says the bridge has been struck multiple times in the past six years by passing trucks.
Still, residents say the DOT can pursue other options, like creating warning signs for trucks.
If the DOT approves the project, work on East Avenue could begin in the next few years.
