A horse went on a joy ride through a Fairfield beachside neighborhood after breaking away from its rider who was tossed on the beach during a riding session, police say.
The incident happened at Fairfield's Penfield Beach Tuesday morning.
Police say the owner of an Easton-based equestrian business told them the horse ran off after its rider fell on the beach.
Police say the horse headed down Fairfield Beach Road before the rider caught up and stopped the steed.
Fairfield police say horse riders are allowed on the beach with their horses any time after Oct. 1 through March 31.
The rider and horse were reunited and the rider was not injured, police say.
