Dozens of families with children who attend Roger Sherman Elementary School in Fairfield have been displaced as a result of Sandy. School officials say 41 families' homes were destroyed or severely damaged by the storm. They are now staying with friends or family, in hotels or renting homes which aren't necessarily in Fairfield. Roger Sherman Elementary and the PTA are doing what they can to help those families get the things they need. The PTA co-president says they had an amazing response last week when they held a shopping day at the school. People donated all kinds of household items, toys and clothes. Then, affected families shopped for what they needed. The PTA is planning other activities to help those families get through this difficult time.
