Westport police say a rower spotted a woman?s body in the Saugatuck River Wednesday morning about 100 feet south of the Post Road Bridge.
Police say they have made a preliminary identification of the woman, but would not release her identity until her family has been notified. They say, however, that she was in her 60s and from Connecticut.
According to Sgt. Arthur Belile, of the Westport Police Marine Unit, there were no signs of trauma or indications of foul play. Police say the woman was fully clothed and had nearly $100 in cash on her. She also had personal items in her possession, like keys and a cell phone.
Authorities say an autopsy will be performed Thursday.
