The turkey transit, Norwalk's unique holiday food drive, took place Saturday morning.
The Ridgefield-Darien Running Company ran through the city while hauling donations to the Open Doors Shelter.
Donations included turkeys, stuffing and non-perishable items.
Open Doors offers healthcare, a pantry and meals, financial coaching and a community closet for anyone in need.
Staff say while the provide these programs year around, things ramp up around the holidays.
"We're just so thankful whatever time of year, but especially now, people come together to do something good for their neighbors and make a difference. Over this year, we've seen a tremendous increase in the need for food, so food drives like this have been a huge help. We're also doing some special things for the holidays," says Erin McDonough.
Ahead of Thanksgiving, Open Doors will distribute Thanksgiving baskets.
They will also offer a full holiday dinner to the community.
