Mr. and Mrs. Claus took a brief break from their duties at the North Pole on Monday to help deliver meals for seniors in Newburgh.
The couple, dressed in their red Christmas attire, joined Meals on Wheels of Greater Newburgh volunteers to distribute dozens of meals at seniors' homes ahead of the holidays.
“We are glad to do it,” says Jim Foley, of Monroe, who dressed up as Santa alongside his wife of 51-years, Sue Foley, who dressed up as Mrs. Claus.
Meals on Wheels of Greater Newburgh executive director Jennifer Verdin says the holiday surprise is a welcome treat for the seniors they serve.
“We are so grateful to Mr. and Mrs. Claus to come out and really treat our clients to a very special Christmas this year. They really, truly appreciate everything they get so thank you from all of us,” says Verdin.
Verdin says this is the first time Santa and Mrs. Claus have joined Meals on Wheels of Greater Newburgh volunteers to deliver meals before the holidays and that they hope to make their appearance a tradition in the years to come.
