Nearly three years after flames ripped through a Westport church, the church's building committee says they are nearly ready to reopen.
Contractors say that after 14 months of extensive reconstruction, the Saugatuck Congregational Church in Westport is almost ready to reopen its doors.
A fire broke out in November 2011 in the back of the church. The fire destroyed the nursery, fellowship and music classrooms.
The building committee tells News 12 that the process has been grueling, but other than carpeting, lighting, inspecting and other last-minute touches, the church is almost ready to open its doors again.
Church officials tell News 12 Connecticut that they are anticipating opening their doors by Christmas, but churchgoers are praying they can be back to their home of worship much sooner.
