A free self-defense workshop was held in Trumbull Thursday night after a child was kidnapped over the weekend.
The workshop was organized by the group Combat Proven Defense and was held at the InSports Center on Trefoil Drive.
Organizers say they wanted to teach people how to protect themselves after police say 43-year-old Rodolfo Rovello forced his way into his estranged wife's home, assaulted her and kidnapped his 7-year-old son, Ariel.
Police say the child was found after Rovello left him with a relative in Queens, New York.
Those in attendance learned how to use things like a cellphone, keys and flashlight to protect themselves.
Police say they are still actively searching for Rovello.
