A broken elevator at Bridgeport's Greene Homes Apartments has left seniors and people with disabilities prisoners in their own homes, tenants told News 12 Connecticut.
They say the only elevator in Building 1 has been broken for the past two weeks, making it impossible for some residents to get to medical appointments, the pharmacy or the grocery store.
"Other people living around here have kids and they're sick and they're going down and up the stairs. It's not right," said resident Aurora Sanchez.
State Sen. Herron Gaston says there's "an epidemic of broken elevators in Bridgeport and the state needs to crack down on inspections and hold property managers accountable for these gross ADA violations."
News 12 Connecticut reached out to local housing officials but had not responded as of Saturday evening.
