State police say a Shelton man faces charges after striking a pedestrian on Route 8 in Derby on Tuesday morning.

Police say video footage shows a gray Toyota registered to 67-year-old Keith Chapman hitting the pedestrian then turning right onto East Main at a high rate of speed.

They say the pedestrian was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Police say the victim told them that they attempted to change lanes when their vehicle collided with another vehicle that sped up from the right. After pulling over to obtain the plate, they exited their vehicle and was struck as the other vehicle drove around them.

Chapman was arrested and charged with interfering with an officer, reckless driving and evading responsibility with physical injury.

He was later released on a $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear at Derby Superior Court on Oct. 2.
