A sinkhole shut down a portion of Route 113 in Stratford near Sikorsky Airport.

State Rep. Joe Gresko (D-Stratford) said the road is shut down adjacent to Sikorsky Airport and the Stewart McKinney National Wildlife Refuge.

The discovery was made Monday during work on a paving project.

Gesko said the Connecticut Department of Transportation is trying to figure out how to address the issue long-term.

It was not immediately clear when the roadway will reopen.
