Hundreds of skiers flocked to Mt. Southington Friday after the resort received a fresh foot of snow.
Skiers say the frigid conditions are perfect for skiing because the snow doesn't glaze over with ice.
"Best time to come out," said Jay Dougherty, Mt. Southington's general manager. "All the moisture, because it's been so cold, has been drawn out of the snow. So you have nice dry conditions."
The thermometer showed the temperature around 9 degrees, but with wind chills at -15, skiers who visited the mountain Friday said it was important to layer their clothing.
"If you don't wear a lot of layers, you'll definitely be freezing," said Dalton Grant of Rocky Hill.
This is one of the earliest weekends that Mt. Southington has had 100 percent of its trails open.
