Investigators are attempting to discover the motive behind
a seemingly random attack of violence outside Norwalk Hospital over the
weekend.
According to Norwalk police dispatch recordings, the victim was a man
who was there to pick up his wife after she was discharged from the maternity
unit.
According to Sgt. Sofia Gulino, the victim, who has not
been named, was going back and forth between his car and the hospital entrance
with personal affects just before he was stabbed by an unknown assailant.
“When he returned to the vehicle, he was rushed by an
unknown individual and stabbed a couple of times,” she said.
The hospital staff called 911 at 10:42 a.m. Saturday and
the victim was taken inside to be treated.
Police say the suspect fled the scene, running toward
Woodbury Avenue. His image was captured on a surveillance video.
The victim was transferred to the emergency room with
serious injuries. He is expected to recover.
Sgt. Gulino says police have no motive thus far.
“We are asking for the community's help in trying to
understand what was behind it and who was behind it,” she says.
Norwalk Hospital's parent company, Nuvance Health, released
a statement:
“We have been advised that this was a random act of
violence which could have occurred anywhere. Our Security team took immediate
action as did Norwalk Police-for which we are very grateful for their
assistance. Our primary concern is for the victim and his family. As this is an
active investigation, we won’t be commenting further.”
