Stamford police say they were forced to shoot a knife-wielding man who lunged at officers.
The incident stemmed from an emergency call police received at around 3 p.m. Tuesday that reported a man threatening to kill a woman who had barricaded herself in a bedroom in a multi-family home on Lillian Street.
Police say when officers responded to the call, they found the man holding a knife.
?He turned on police, had the knife over his head,? Asst. Police Chief Robert Nivakoff says. ?[One] police officer said stop ? he did not drop the knife and a second police officer fired two shots.?
The suspect was wounded, but is expected to be released from the hospital and into police custody Thursday. Police have not released the man?s name, but they say he faces multiple criminal charges once he?s discharged.
Meanwhile, the two officers involved in the shooting are on administrative duty for 10 days, which is protocol.
