Friends and family remembered a 17-year-old Trinity Catholic High School student Friday, who died in a car accident earlier this year.
Investigators say Cassidy Geary lost control of her car and crashed into a utility pole on Fillow Street in Norwalk on Jan. 5.
Geary would have graduated from Trinity Catholic last Sunday.
Her classmates wanted to do something in her honor and ultimately decided on a memorial garden. The ceremony to honor Geary's memory was punctuated by the release of butterflies into the garden.
A statue of St. Francis, which Geary's friends say recalls her love of animals, and a peace sign, which they say represents her desire to help others, dot the garden.
Geary's father says he is still amazed by the outpouring of support.
"I'm just so blown away by it," Tom Geary says. "It's helping us get through the day-to-day horror of not having her anymore."
Tom Geary says his daughter wasn't wearing her seat belt when she lost control of her car. The family has started a campaign called Click it for Cassie and are distributing bumper stickers.
He says the bumper-sticker campaign is another way to remember his daughter and hopefully help prevent other accidents.
