Police have arrested a Stamford therapist who also works for the Greenwich school system for allegedly sexually assaulting one of his patients.
The accuser, a woman in her 40s, told police about the incident with a rape crisis counselor at her side, according to investigators.
She accused 47-year-old Alexander Pino of sexually assaulting her in his West Main Street office in 2013 -- during a therapy session.
"When you go to a doctor, and you trust them, and you go to them for help, and this happens to you -- I'm sure the victim...didn't believe she had anywhere to go," says Sgt. Chris Broems, of the Stamford Police Department. "Her mental and physical health have declined. It appears the stress just became too much, and that's what brought her in."
Police arrested Pino Wednesday morning at Hamilton Avenue Elementary School, where he has been a licensed social worker. He has also worked at New Lebanon Elementary School since 2015.
Police say there were no incidents involving the schools.
"We have no indication that he's done anything to kids at this point, or actually anyone else at this point, however it is a concern," Broems says.
Greenwich school officials released a statement today saying Pino has been placed on paid administrative leave pending an internal investigation. He is being held on a $150,000 bond and is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday.
