8ds agoDrums of chemicals were found buried in a Bethpage park that was formerly a Grumman dumping ground, according to the state Department of Environmental Conservation.
The DEC confirms that six drums were found in a cement vault in what is now Bethpage Community Park. It says the drums contain chlorinated solvents and waste oil petroleum.
The DEC says there are no signs of leaks right now.
The concrete casing are expected to be removed this week.
New York has been overseeing Northrop-Grumman's cleanup of the park, parts of which have been closed for years.
It is part of the ongoing response to the historic groundwater plume that is linked to the old Grumman-Navy site in Bethpage.
