A man accused of robbing an autistic man at a Stamford mall has been arrested.
Police say Stephen St. Jacques approached the victim, Patrick, at Stamford Town Center last week. St. Jacques was seen on surveillance video allegedly befriending Patrick before stealing $100 he had gotten for his birthday. The surveillance video was shared with News 12 Connecticut and other news outlets, and police say numerous tips led them to St. Jacques.
People also contacted police offering money to replace the $100 stolen from Patrick. Police say they even got phone calls from as far as Washington state from people who wanted to help him out. In total, more than $1,300 was collected for Patrick and police presented him with the money and gift cards to his favorite video game store Monday at police headquarters.
St. Jacques is due in court tomorrow.
