Stolen slippers lead to police chase in Stamford
A pair of stolen slippers led to a police chase in Stamford that left seven officers and a suspect injured.
Police say a sergeant confronted a 29-year-old man attempting to steal the slippers from Lord & Taylor at 110 High Ridge Road.
The suspect fought a police officer who injured his ankle. He then deployed a Taser, but it had no effect on the suspect, who broke free and took off in his car.
News 12 is told the man jumped curbs, veered into head-on traffic and caused a head-on crash. The suspect was finally taken down by a K-9 unit in Stamford.
A Stamford police sergeant faces surgery for a broken ankle. All the injured were taken to the hospital and are expected to be OK.
Police say once the suspect is released from a hospital, he will be arrested on multiple charges.
