The remnants of Tropical Storm Debby forced Stamford to postpone one of their biggest community events.

Stamford police announced that Tuesday’s National Night Out event has been postponed to Monday, Aug.12.

"In light of all of what could happen, we're here to prevent things, it's also a preventative measure, it's also a measure of where we're able to build relationships. How does a city progress? How does a city get better? It's through these relationships," said Lt. Jerry Junes.

The National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie.

The event is celebrated nationwide.
