Dozens of residents have called News 12 saying they are trapped in their own homes due to live power lines, and they say they cannot get anyone on the phone to help them.
About 40 houses in the Riverside section of Greenwich are trapped.
Residents say many children and elderly people live on the street. They feared first responders wouldn't be able to reach them in case of an emergency.
Town tree crews were on the scene Thursday afternoon clearing debris. Police say it's part of a task force helping remove storm damage around town so energy companies can get to work.
"We understand power is going to be down for a few days. We're not so worried about that, but we are worried about having first responders being able to come in," said Zefi Stefania Karakaea.
Officials are urging residents to stay away from downed wires.
