The town of Stratford marked Hispanic Heritage Month with a special flag-raising ceremony on Wednesday.
Mayor Laura Hoydick issued a proclamation for the month honoring contributions to the town, state and nation by those with Hispanic ancestry.
One committee member said it's important to have the support of the town in honoring their heritage.
"It celebrates the contributions of so many people that came here for a new beginning, for a new life. The contributions that we have given to the United States, from a great language, to the food, to everything," said Gladys Ramos, founder of Stratford Hispanic Heritage Committee.
Hispanic Heritage month runs from Sept. 15 through Oct. 15.
